City vs Suburbs Is One Better for Kids

Do you believe it's better to raise kids in a city or suburbs?

That's the question Rent.com posed to 1,000 parents of children 18 and under in a recent nationwide survey.

One interesting result is that many parents indicated a preference to do what they had experienced growing up. 42% of respondents said they have always lived in the city and are raising their kids there, too. Another 41.5% of respondents similarly reported having always lived in the suburbs and raising their kids there.

As for city living, a large majority of parents (82%) responded that when choosing a place in the city, a safe neighborhood is the most important factor. Also, 40% of respondents said they believe that cultural diversity is the biggest advantage to living in a city over the suburbs.

If you have kids or hope to some day, would you prefer to raise them in an apartment in the city or suburbs? Would your own upbringing play a role in your decision?
